Christopher Pincher, MP for Elford, Edingale and Tamworth, will be pulling pints in the Crown Inn in Elford on November 12 from 1.30pm until 2.30pm.

His work experience is part of the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group Work in a Pub project and local residents are encouraged to stop by to have a pint, or a quick chat while he learns more about the trade and tries his hand at working behind the bar.

Mr Pincher said: “I am really pleased to be taking part in this project – it looks like it will be fun.

“I do hope residents in Elford and elsewhere will drop in to see me trying to learn the ropes and find out more about the pub industry. Pubs play such an important role in our communities and I am keen to learn more about what happens on the other side of the bar.

“The thing that worries me most is handling the till – they look so much more complex than they used to be.”

Dyfrig Martin, the landlord of The Crown added: “We are looking forward to having our Member of Parliament experience what it is like to work in a pub.

“We are glad there is such strong interest from Westminster to learn about our industry and the role pubs play in the community.”

The All Party Parliamentary Beer Group aims to promote the enjoyment of beer and the unique role of the pub in English society, as well as improve understanding of the social, cultural and historic role of brewing and pubs around the country.

The group hosts a number of events and activities for the beer and pub industry and Parliamentarians throughout the year.
