Match report: Knowle FC 1 Lichfield City FC 1

Russell Dodds saw his Lichfield City FC side earn a point after a draw against Knowle.

City started well, putting their hosts under early pressure which resulted in two decent chances for Rose.

The game then settled down into a midfield battle, with neither side making any real headway.

This changed in the 30th minute when Sol Griffiths forced a Lichfield corner which found its way out to Tom Gibson on the edge of the box. He volleyed into the top corner to give City the lead.

The visitors then had Craig Johnson to thank for keeping them in front with a couple of fine saves at the feet of Buto Sibanda and Duwayne Mardenborough.

With the score 0-1 at half-time, Knowle started to put Lichfield under pressure in the second period and equalised after 55 minutes. Johnson saved from James Cartwright, but the ball ran to Scott Oliver who tapped into an empty net.

Johnson continued with his heroics keeping shots out from several Knowle players and had a bit of luck when Sibanda hit the bar.

Lichfield did manage to create a couple of half-chances as Dunkley and Wilkins went close, but they had Dan Rock to thank late on as he made two clearances off the line to keep the score at 1-1.

This was a hard fought draw by Lichfield who battled well. They can now look forward to cup action this Saturday (November 12) when they entertain Stretton Eagles in the Les James Challenge competition, kick-off 1.30pm at Brownsfield Park.
