Firefighters have battled a lorry fire on the A38 near Lichfield.
Fire crews from Lichfield, Barton-under-Needwood and Cannock were called to the incident at 10.40am yesterday (November 15) on the A38 southbound between Alrewas and Fradley Lane.
Lichfield Assistant Area Commander, Paul Cullen said: “The lorry driver had been driving along the A38 when he looked into his side mirror and saw smoke issuing from his trailer.
“He immediately pulled over to investigate and when he realised the trailer was on fire, he disconnected it from the cab and drove the cab to a safe distance.
“The trailer was carrying Christmas cards and paper and so was a well-developed fire on our arrival. Luckily only the trailer was involved in the fire as the driver had the astuteness to move the cab away from the trailer.
“The fire appears to have started accidentally so it was fortunate the driver spotted the smoke when he did and was able to pull over, away from the main carriageway.”
