A training session is offering people living in Lichfield the chance to learn the skills of minute taking.

The session will take place at the Jigsaw community shop on Dimbles Lane on December 13, from 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Provided by SCIO Training, the course is aimed at anyone who already takes the minutes of meetings, but would like to improve their skills, or anyone who is interested in taking minutes, but does not know what it involves.

Councillor Colin Greatorex, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for organisational development & community, said: “This course is aimed at people who work in the voluntary sector, who want to improve their skills.

“Voluntary groups and not for profit organisations often work in partnership, which brings with it the need to attend plenty of meetings. This is why having good notes, which explain who is going to do what, is really important.

“We hope lots of people come forward and take part, as it’s a good opportunity benefit from this great value workshop.”

The session has been organised by Lichfield District Council, in partnership with North Lichfield Initiative, Bromford Living, Lichfield City Council and Lichfield and District Voluntary Sector Support.

Paul Jay, SCIO training manager, added: “By coming to this course, you will find out all you need to know to take precise and useful minutes from a meeting.

“It will take the learners through the role and purpose of a minute taker, and then go into the elements of what makes good minutes, different ways of taking notes at a meeting, and finally how to present minutes.

“It should be an interesting session, and a useful skill to have if you attend meetings.”

The course costs £10 for voluntary and community organisations that are based in Lichfield district. It costs £39 for voluntary and community organisations that are further afield, and £59 for anyone else who wants to attend but does not work in the voluntary sector.
