Tourists stop off to enjoy Lichfield Christmas Festival

Tourists enjoyed a flavour of the festive period as Lichfield held its Christmas Festival.

Eleven coaches visited the city on Saturday (December 10) to enjoy the day, which was organised by Visit Lichfield.

A spokesperson said: “There was a great atmosphere as people browsed the general market and enjoyed Lichfield 1st Scouts’ refreshments, while listening to festive music – courtesy of Cannock Salvation Army Band, City of Lichfield Concert Band, and Walsall Operatic Society.

“Father Christmas even made an appearance on Saturday, stopping by the Market Square to wish everyone a merry Christmas!”

At Sunday’s Lichfield Chamber of Trade and Commerce Christmas Fayre, the Morris dancers didn’t let the wet weather dampen their spirits, however, the performance of The Nativity, by the Lichfield Mysteries and Churches Together, was moved to Wade Street Church.

Lichfield City Council’s Mayor, Cllr Brian Bacon, chose Gordon’s Celebration Cakes from Bilston as the best dressed stall, and presented the winners with a bottle of champagne donated by Waitrose, and £30.

Councillor Louise Flowith, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for tourism, said: “I am delighted so many visitors joined us for this year’s Christmas Festival.

“The weekend was packed with festive treats for all the family, and I am glad Sunday’s wet weather did not spoil the fun.”
