St Giles Hospice offers bereavement support training course

St Giles Hospice is inviting people in Lichfield and Burntwood to sign up for a specialist training course to help others cope with bereavement.

The Working with Loss module is open to anyone interested in joining St Giles Hospice as a volunteer, as well as to people who simply wish to understand more about how to support those who have experienced the loss of a loved one.

However, time is running out to register for the course, which starts in January, and places are limited.

Nikki Archer, supportive care manager for St Giles Hospice’s family support and bereavement team, said: “At St Giles Hospice, we don’t just care for local people with serious illnesses – a large part of what we do is providing support and counselling for people who have experienced loss.

“If you feel you could help us by joining our team of family support and bereavement volunteers, or you would simply like to develop your own knowledge and skills in bereavement support, then our Working with Loss training module could be for you.

“Just a few places remain for the course and the first session takes place on January 13, so please contact us soon to secure your place.”

The Working with Loss training module is a ten-week course which begins with two full days – on January 13 and 14 – followed by a series of Tuesday evening classes and two more daytime sessions.

All classes take place at St Giles Hospice’s Education Centre in Whittington and the cost of the course is £150 (or £300 with university accreditation).

To sign up for the course call the St Giles Hospice education team on 01543 434533 or email
