Conservation work set to take place at Chasewater Heaths and Gentleshaw Common

Conservation work is set to take place at two sites of special scientific interest during the new year.

Lichfield District Council will begin its winter heathland conservation works at Chasewater Heaths and Gentleshaw Common in early January.

The work will include cutting back scrub and removing tree shoots.

Councillor Neil Roberts, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for development services, said: “We commission these works each year to help these two special sites retain their biodiversity.

“If we didn’t manage these environments, they would soon revert to woodland, and their fragile and rare heathland plants would become choked by invasive plants, such as brambles and bracken.”
