People are being invited to join Lichfield District Council’s countryside team and Burton Conservation Volunteers on a day of nature conservation.

Taking place on Saturday (January 22), from 10.30am to 4pm, the day will include creating a flower glade at Pipe Hill Common.

The event is part of the district council’s heathland management to make sure important local habitats are preserved.

Councillor Alan White, cabinet member for development services, said: “This day will be a great way to volunteer to help us look after and improve Pipe Hill Common.

“It is a chance to meet other volunteers and enjoy a day in the great outdoors, clearing scrub, such as bracken and bramble, to create a beautiful glade of flowers.”

There is no need to book, just turn up to this free conservation event. The group will meet at the turn-off to Pipe Hill on Lichfield Road (A5190), which is the first turning on the left after the roundabout linking Walsall Road to Lichfield Road (coming from Lichfield).

“Remember to wear warm clothing and bring gardening gloves,” Cllr White added. “We’ll provide hot drinks and snacks, but if you’re planning to stay for the day, we recommend bringing a packed lunch.”
