Burntwood residents are being given the chance to view proposals for a new supermarket.

Aldi has submitted an amended planning application to Lichfield District Council for a new store on the corner of Bridge Cross Road and Milestone Way in Burntwood.

And the supermarket chain will be showing the new proposals at a public exhibition at St John’s Community Church, Chase Terrace, Burntwood, between 3pm and 7pm on January 26.

A spokesperson for Aldi, said: “We received an encouraging response from the local community regarding our initial planning application, with 75 percent of responses we received from residents welcoming a new facility to the area in principle.

“However, following a review of the consented proposals we are keen, as part of the new store, to deliver a new signalised crossing on Milestone Way and a more comprehensive access solution. Although the wider proposals will remain unchanged, we must submit a new planning application to be considered by the district council which incorporates the highway changes.”

Aldi was originally granted planning permission in August for the new store on the site of the Bridge Cross Working Mens Club.

The spokesman continued: “We are keen to bring the amended development forward so it can deliver a new food store to Burntwood to help bridge the need for local facilities in the area.

“Our new neighbourhood store would be in walking distance of the existing local centre, and with a new direct pedestrian route through the site, would encourage shoppers to make linked trips with existing local businesses. We will also be providing up to 25 full and part time jobs aimed at local people.

“I would like to encourage the local community to come along and view our amended proposals and meet the project team. We are keen to hear what local people have to say about the revised highway proposals.

“If people have any questions in the meantime they should call our freephone information line number on 0800 298 7040.”
