Burntwood U16s came from behind to defeat Tamworth 12-7 at The Sportsway.
Straight from the off they knew it was going to be a hard game as Tamworth marched their way into the home 22. They were to stay here for the first ten minutes until their first try of the game came due to sloppy defending by Burntwood.
The rest of the first half was really tight as both sides both had chances to score. However, the defences held out and the score at the break was Burntwood 0 Tamworth 7.
The second half was to be completely different with the hosts dominating the opening minutes. Good strong running from Dan Bickley and Ryan Johnson led to the big second row scoring the home side’s first try. They failed to convert making it Burntwood 5 Tamworth 7.
Burntwood continued to press and were camped in the Tamworth 22 for another 20 minutes until the breakthrough finally came. Ryan Johnson, who was having the game of his life, scored his second try of the game with great running. This was converted on the 5m line by fly-half Charlie Liggins.
Despite Tamworth running back at Burntwood from the restart, the home side held on to make the final score 12-7 to keep their chances of winning the league alive.
