Match report: Burntwood RUFC U15 7 Nuneaton RUFC U15 34

Burntwood RUFC’s U15 squad were at home to face Nuneaton.

The away trip earlier in the season proved to be a very hard, one-sided encounter so the Burntwood lads knew they had to be at their best.

The overnight frost meant a delayed kick off and a slightly fragmented pre-match warm up, but from the opening period both sides battled hard with some strong hard tackles helping to keep the scoreboard untroubled.

On the 15 minute mark Nuneaton finally made the breakthrough after skirting around the Burntwood defence for a try. A second quickly followed for the visiting side giving the a 10-0 lead.

The hosts now took the fight back to Nuneaton and after several phases of play moved them up the pitch, flanker Jack Foden made a powerful run through the Nuneaton centre to score under the posts, the conversion by Ryan Allwood making it 7-10 at the break.

Changes were made by both sides during the interval and these appeared to work for the visitors. Although the Burntwood lads fought hard until the very final play they could not conjure up a further score, while Nuneaton, upping their tempo, added 24 points to their total.
