Two free hedgelaying courses on offer in Lichfield

People are being given the chance to learn a traditional countryside skill at Darnford Park.

Lichfield District Council’s arboriculture team is inviting people with an interest in nature conservation to learn the ancient art of hedgelaying.

The two courses are taking place from 10am to 4pm on the weekends of February 18 and 19, and March 3 and 4. Led by the Burton Conservation Volunteers, participants will learn about hedgerow management.

Councillor Alan White, Lichfield District Council’s cabinet member for development services, said: “We hope lots of people take part on these courses, not only will they help to boost the wildlife of the site, they will also offer everyone who takes part an interesting and worthwhile weekend.

“All tools and training will be provided, as will hot drinks and biscuits. However, please remember to wear suitable clothes and footwear and bring a packed lunch.”

There is no need to book onto either of the courses, just turn up at the Darnford Park car park, off Darnford Lane at 10am on either Saturday (February 18) or March 3.
