Police are searching for a lorry which is believed to have been involved in a crash in Lichfield which left a young moped rider dead. The crash happened on the A38 northbound carriageway near Streethay at around 5.25am this morning (February 21). Officers believe the 50cc Yamaha bike collided with a large HGV with a red and black cab, which did not stop after the crash. The rider has not yet been formally identified but is believed to be in his 20s and from the Lichfield area. A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival, crews found a young man lying near to a moped. “They immediately started advanced life support but sadly it quickly became apparent that there was nothing that could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.” The carriageway has been closed since the accident while investigations continue. Officers have urged anyone who saw the crash or saw the white moped travelling on the A38 to ring 101, quoting incident number 68 of 21 February.
