Burntwood school set for production of Calamity Jane

Hannah Bird as Calamity Jane

Students from a Burntwood school will be heading for the Wild West when their annual production takes to the stage.

Erasmus Darwin Academy will perform Calamity Jane from Wednesday (March 7) to Saturday at 7pm at the school’s theatre.

The story of the musical is loosely based on the life of Wild West heroine Calamity Jane, who was renowned for exaggerating her adventures, which often go chaotically wrong.

The stage musical includes the well-known numbers The Deadwood Stage, The Windy City and The Black Hills of Dakota.

The show has been directed by staff, with an all-student cast. The leading role of Calamity Jane is played by Hannah Bird, with sixth former Jack Hawley playing Wild Bill Hickock.

Ben Stanford, Sophie V Robinson, Corey Douglas and Sophie Chilton play the supporting lead roles.

Tickets are currently on sale from the Academy in Pool Road, Burntwood, or by telephoneing 01543 685828. Entry is £6 for adults, £3.50 for concessions.
