Lichfield Festival aiming to add a splash of colour to the city

The Lichfield Festival will be looking to add a splash of colour to the city as part of this year’s event.

Organisers are calling on local businesses, schools and groups to get on board and help decorate the city with artwork inspired by the Festival’s distinctive striped logo.

Spokesperson Jennifer Smith said: “Whether you are an experienced artist or a complete beginner, if you have an idea or an exhibition space we would love to hear from you.”

Among the ideas being suggested are:

  • Designing a window display inspired by all the colours of the rainbow.
  • Knitting a woolly leg warmer big enough to cover a tree trunk, lamppost or rubbish bin
  • Baking a striped cake or creating a multi-coloured sandwich
  • Covering a car in stripes or plantin a rainbow of flowers in a garden

Lichfield Festival is looking for artists, schools, families, community groups, local businesses and charities to get involved. Each artwork will be accompanied by information on the group that created it, with the aim to have lots of quirky artworks around the town for everyone to visit.

Organisers will also be looking for city centre locations to host artwork created as part of the project.

Jennifer explained: “Shortly before the Festival we will release a Stripe the City trail map and judging sheet. Each participant will be marked on the trail and visitors will have the opportunity to visit the different pieces.

“They will have the option to vote for their favourite in an online poll.”
