Burntwood RUFC U16s went out of the league play off cup after a narrow one point loss away to Walsall.

The visitors showed the desire to win as for the first 10 minutes of the game they camped their way in the Walsall 22 and slowly edged towards the try line.

However, silly mistakes cost Burntwood possession and the hosts managed to fight their way back up to the visiting try line. A strong drive by a Walsall forward then saw him crash over making it 5-0 as the conversion was missed.

Apoor kick by Liggins put Walsall on the attack again and with strong running they managed to gain a penalty in front of the posts for an easy three points.

Burntwood then started to hit back with real fire with great forward work making metres then quick balls to the backs got their side on the half way line. A good run and pop by Liggins allowed winger Ben Tranter to sidestep the homefull-back for his 96th try for the club underneath the posts. Liggins converted making it 8-7 at the break.

Both teams knew it was going to be tight and after the break this continued. With bothsides going backwards and forwards the game was there to be decided.

Great play by all the Burntwood team nearly put them over the line but with no clear opportunities to pick up easy penalty points they lost a game which they really should have won.
