Thousands of fake goods have been seized at a car boot sale in Lichfield.

Trading Standards officers raided the Pouk Lane event as well as another sale at Eccleshall.

In total, they seized 18,000 pirated DVDs and 1,200 counterfeit designer clothes from both events. The goods would have netted more than £100,000 if they had been legitimate.

Staffordshire County Councillor Pat Corfield said: “We have a zero tolerance approach to this kind of crime in Staffordshire and will come down incredibly hard on those caught peddling fake goods.

“Anyone buying these counterfeit products is not only buying a poor quality and shoddy item, they are also helping to support illegal trade.

“Counterfeit products damage the whole community. They harm legitimate businesses and can help to fund organised crime. We will continue to work with our partners to stamp out the sale of counterfeit goods and, where possible, to seek remuneration for the people of Staffordshire.”

Two people have been arrested and bailed in connection with the counterfeit clothing and a further five have been arrested and bailed in relation to the fake DVDs.
