Lichfield’s town crier Ken Knowles will soon be swapping his red regalia for a more multi-coloured costume.
But this popular orator will still need to be in fine voice when he appears in the Prologue for Lichfield Mysteries over the May Day bank holiday.
The award-winning town crier is a noted Lichfield thespian having performed with Lichfield Players, Shakespeare in the Park and Intimate Theatre to name a few.
The last few weeks have been busy ones for Ken. Earlier this month he became Heart of England Town Crier Champion 2012.
Since becoming town Crier three years ago, Ken has won places in several competitions around the country and is now hosting his own contest at Speakers’ Corner in Lichfield as part of the Olympic Torch relay celebrations on June 30. Ken will be the Master of Ceremonies but is not allowed to compete.
Ken has appeared in Lichfield Mysteries for many years and is looking forward to ‘shouting’ the proclamation to get the event off to a good start.
The Mysteries, a free event, are on May 6 and 7 on Market Square and in the Cathedral. More details are available at www.lichfieldmysteries.co.uk.
