Lichfield set to welcome free Blues on the Loose 2012 festival

A free festival of Blues music is set to take place over two days in Lichfield.

Blues on the Loose 2012 will take place at the Lichfield Guildhall on May 18 before moving to the King’s Head on Bird Street and the Flamingo Tea Room on May 19.

Lap slide guitarist Tom Doughty will headline the first night.

“Tom’s music and technique is acknowledged by his peers throughout the world,” a spokespersons aid. “His spellbinding picking, rhythm and touch amazes audiences with his take on acoustic roots music.

“His is a unique sound borne of adversity as Tom re learnt his craft following a permanent spinal injury. With three nationally and internationally acclaimed CD’s to his name, studio sessions, a growing reputation as a slide guitar teacher and workshop leader, Tom entertains audiences throughout the land.”

He will be joined on May 18 from 8pm by local jazz outfit Funktional and The Tom Woodman Band.

On the following day, a number of local bands will be performing in the afternoon and evening. The Flamingo Tea Room will feature music from Tom Anderson, Chris Buckle, Paul Francis, Downshift and Matt Thorpe & Friends from 3.30pm-7pm, while the King’s Head will pick things up from 8pm to midnight with the sounds of Nick Dalmedo, Acoustic Warriors & The Engine Room, The Neil Lewis & Matt Thorpe Band and the Juke Joint Jammers.
