Venues across the area will be offering everything from swimming lessons to skateboarding as children look to beat the school holiday boredom – and a brochure is being launched to showcase the full range of events available.

Lichfield District Council’s play team is running play activity weeks for seven to 13 year-olds over the holidays. These include two ‘Wet ‘n’ Wild’ weeks of pond dipping, water fights, den building and bug hunting in Beacon Park, as well as an art week and skateboarding sessions at King Edward VI Leisure Centre and indoor rock climbing at St Chad’s Church Hall in Lichfield.

Burntwood Leisure Centre is running its holiday club again this year. Taking place on weekdays, from July 23 to August 3 and from August 20 to 31, the day-long sessions will offer five to 11 year-olds the chance to take part in games, sports, swimming, art and more.

From badminton to gymnastics, Friary Grange and King Edward VI leisure centres are also running plenty of coaching courses and sessions. And, both leisure centres are offering an ‘early bird’ discounted booking price on many sessions, if booked by July 8.

Beacon Park will also join in the fun with bird box painting and pond dipping, along with a fun day on August 9 from 11am to 3pm. The day will feature sports, games and teddy bear games.

Summer activities at Chasewater Country Park also has a variety of events on offer, including orienteering, natural art, races and bug hunting.

Councillor Val Richards, Lichfield District Council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure Services, said: “I am pleased to launch 2012’s Summer of Fun programme. It is packed with sessions and activities to keep children and teenagers entertained over the summer holiday.

“On top of our daily playschemes and play activity weeks, we’ve got more than 70 holiday clubs, activities and sporty courses at our leisure centres and parks. So, make sure you sign your child up to have a summer of fun.”

The full programme is online at www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/summerfun and available from Burntwood, Friary Grange or King Edward VI leisure centres. For more information about playschemes and play activity weeks, call the council’s Play Development team on 01543 308786 or email [email protected].
