The reigning Lichfield Dash champion is facing a race against time to be fit to defend his crown.

Birchfield Harrier Elliot Giles claimed the crown last time out and will be desperate to make the start line once more on June 30.

An achilles tendon injury has hampered him in recent weeks, but he is hoping to be fit for the city showpiece.

““I can’t wait to be back in Lichfield again for the Dash and hopefully to claim the title once again,” he said. “Winning in 2011 was very special and this year there’s set to be an event bigger crowd as the torch will pass through before the race, so I simply have to be there!”

Roger Black MBE will be starting the 2012 Florette Lichfield Dash race around the Cathedral at 12noon following a series of junior and corporate races from 10am.

As well as the athletics, there will be entertainment including street dancing performances by the Elite School of Performing Arts, displays by the Tennis Freestyle Team and a sponsored bikeathon with staff from Lichfield Health and Fitness Club.

Entries for all races at the Florette Lichfield Dash are now available via www.kpevents.net – this includes junior sprints, the elite senior mile and junior and senior relays. Fees are £2.50 for junior events and between £5 and £20 a team for the relays. All monies raised on the day will go the WeLoveLichfield Fund.
