The GolfMark accolade was given to Lichfield Golf and Country Club because of its junior and beginner friendly facilities.

The Elmhurst club was only founded in 1991 but has established a reputation for encouraging newcomers to the sport. Young players even have their own committee, captain, newsletter and dedicated competitions. Local schools have even incorporated golf into their PE timetable.

Golf operations manager Simon Joyce said: “We have put a lot of hard work in over the past two years which has resulted in a real revival of the junior section, which has been fantastic to see.

“We have encouraged youngsters to come down to the club through our schools programme in the hope that after being given the chance to sample the activities available at a club they may go on to future membership and enjoy golf for the rest of their lives.

“GolfMark shows we are creating the right environment in which children can learn and play golf. It is a scheme that covers everything from CRB checks for volunteers working with the juniors to making sure we have first aid kits available. It sends out a very positive message about the club, its aims and its principles.”

Lichfield Golf and Country Club has both an 18 hole and a Par 3 course, a 26 bay driving range, putting and bunker practice area and offers golf tuition through the PGA professionals at the Ace Golf Academy. For more information call 01543 417333 or visit www.theclubcompany.com/clubs/Lichfield.
