Police are trying to trace a group of girls who may have seen an assault in Burntwood. A 16-year-old girl reported that she’d been assaulted by two men between 12.30am and 2am on June 25 in the car park at the back of Sankey’s Corner, off Rugeley Road, Chase Terrace. The girl, from Burntwood, was not seriously injured. She said a group of girls were standing nearby and witnessed the assault. Det Sgt Alan Lyford, from Staffordshire Police, said: “The alleged incident happened shortly after England’s European Championship match with Italy, so it’s possible that other people may’ve been in the area and witnessed something. “We want to speak to the girls who were seen nearby and anyone else who was at or near to Sankey’s Corner at the time and may have witnessed any other incidents.” Anyone with information should ring DS Lyford on 01785 235382 or Staffordshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 124 of 25 June. Alternatively, they can ring independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
