The Burntwood Wakes festival has been cancelled after organisers lost a battle with the wet weather.

The Jubilee Festival was due to take place at Burntwood Rugby Club from July 20 to 22, but the grounds have been saturated by recent downpours and the event has now been axed.

A spokesperson said: “It is with the utmost regret that Burntwood Town Council has to announce the cancellation of the Jubilee Festival for this year.

“We have sought and obtained independent specialist advice on the state of the grounds. The persistently heavy rainfall over the last two months has made the ground unusable for the festival.

“We know how much everyone has been looking forward to the festival in this Jubilee year and we wish to convey our apologies to the entertainers, exhibitors and the public in Burntwood and surrounding areas.

“The great tradition of the Burntwood Wakes Festival will continue next year and we will start our planning as soon as possible.”
