Four arrested after 10,000 fake CDs and DVDs are seized in Lichfield

More than 10,000 fake CDs and DVDs have been seized at a car boot sale in Lichfield.

The raid on five stalls at the sale in Barracks Lane on July 30 was part of an operation targeting markets across Staffordshire and saw four men arrested.

Inspector Donna Gibbs, Local Policing Team Commander for South Staffordshire, said: “This was the latest in a number of ongoing joint operations between police and trading standards to crack down on counterfeit goods at car boot sales.

“Members of the public should be aware that they will ultimately lose out by buying illegal products which are often of very poor quality.

“Anyone with information should contact Staffordshire Police on 101. Alternatively, they can ring independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for communities Pat Corfield added: “Criminals selling counterfeit goods know we are on to them and will continue to pursue them at sales and markets throughout the summer.

“If they are thinking twice about coming to Staffordshire and looking over their shoulders then we are doing our job.

“We’d ask people attending these events to let us know if there is potential counterfeit sales activity on site. These criminals spoil family events and we want to work with organisers to stop them attending.”
