One of Lichfield’s most famous sons will celebrate his 303rd birthday with free cake.
The Samuel Johnson Birthplace Museum will offer visitors a tasty treat to mark the occasion on September 22.
The museum will be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm and there will also be a wreath laid at the Johnson statue in Market Square at 12noon. The ceremony will be followed by music from a local choir and brass band, while the Intimate Theatre group will perform the short play Jubilee Johnson.
The birthday celebrations are part of Lichfield Heritage Weekend which takes place all through the weekend, with events at the old prison cells at Lichfield Guildhall and a chance to meet the Macebearers and find out more about the city’s historic civic customs at the Guildhall.
The Johnson Society will also be marking Johnson’s Birthday with their traditional supper at Lichfield Guildhall in the evening, where current President Susie Dent will hand over her badge to President elect John Chapple.
