Mixed emotions for Lichfield City captain after management change

Lichfield City captain Danny Worrall has admitted the past week has been one of “mixed emotions” for the team.

Their preparations for last weekend’s fixture at Earlswood Town were hit by the shock resignation of manager Russell Dodd.

However, popular reserve team manager Paul Holt made the step up and duly delivered a 3-1 win.

“It’s really sad to see Russell leave as he has helped this club move forward in the last two seasons,” said Worrall. “But we have to respect their decision and we wish them all the best for the future. I’m sure Russell will be back managing soon.

“We could not be happier with Paul taking over though because he deserves it. He’s been around the club a long time and I know he’ll give it 100 per cent.

“He’s done wonders for the reserve team and I’m sure he’ll do great with us. The lads are fully behind him.”

A winning start to life in the top job will have done Holt’s standing at Brownsfield Park no harm and Worrall wants to see more of the same when they entertain Southam United on Saturday (September 22).

“The game at Earlswood was fantastic – we thoroughly deserved the win,” said the midfielder. “All the lads put a shift in and if we can perform like we did on Saturday more regularly we will start to climb the league.”

Kick-off at Brownsfield Park is at 3pm.
