Burntwood RUFC 2nds hit try-scoring form to see off Silhillians 3rds

Burntwood’s second string ran in 12 tries against depleted opposition after their trip down the M42.

Tries were scored by Sam Corbett (2), James Langford (2), Rob England (2), Joe Cowling, James Holmes, Mike Whittingham and Chris Preston. Mitch Carless converted 10 of the tries to complete the tally.

The home side stuck at their task and did well to score 12 points before the contest was brought to a premature halt following agreement between the captains and referee.

Burntwood Development XV were also in free-scoring mood at home to Handsworth 3rds in a re-arranged Merit Table fixture. They ran in 4 tries in each half to carry them to a 55-0 win.

The visitors earned their fair share of possession but the home defence was impressive to shut out their opponents. It was a different story when the youthful home side had the ball. They had too many options for Handsworth to cope with.

Ryan Percox set his side on the way as early as the 3rd minute with a touch down following a charged down kick. Aza Dunet added a penalty two minutes later and then converted tries by Tom O’Brien and Jordan McGinn. Another try by Lewis Aston made it 27-0 at the break.

Dunet completed a personal haul of 15 points when he converted all four second half tries before play was curtailed due to injuries to Handsworth players. The tries were scored by Nick Peplow, scrum half McGinn, Jack Neal and Jordan Douglas.

Ben Poulton put in some impressive runs and Luke Rookyard continues to develop his game at hooker.

This Saturday (September 29) Burntwood 1sts resume league action with a trip to Willenhall. The seconds host Tamworth 3rds and the Development squad are away to Essington 2nds.
