Burntwood RUFC 2nds win 24-12 at Walsall RUFC 3rds

Burntwood RUFC 2nds faced their toughest test to date this season away to Walsall 3rds and came away with a 24-12 win.

Both sides deserve a huge amount of credit for playing out such an open, attacking encounter.

Two early first half tries from Sam Corbett and Dave Peplow, both converted by Mitch Carless got the travelling side off to a flying start. However, some wayward passing and dropped ball prevented Burntwood from extending their lead.

Indeed, it was Walsall who scored the game’s next two tries, one either side of half time, the former being converted. The home side had much the better of the second period but could not breakdown Burntwood’s dogged defence.

Later in the game, Burntwood broke out of their half and were awarded a penalty in front of the sticks. Carless accepted the invitation with a successful kick.

Then just as the game was drawing to a conclusion, Burntwood had an overlap out wide and left winger Soz scored his first try for the club to ensure the win was in no doubt. Carless, who had a fine game, again added the extras.
