Former Aston Villa star plans fundraising drive

Former Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland football star Steve Staunton is setting his sights on a major fundraising campaign for the New Year after announcing his Autumn Ball at Aston Wood Golf Club raised an amazing £18,500.

An eight-year-old local youngster who has just undergone a brain operation was given £3,500, while the rest was split between the St Giles Hospice and Cystic Fibrosis.

“The response to the Autumn Ball was absolutely tremendous and I would like to thank everyone who supported the event,” Steve said. “I am now hoping to raise even more next year and have already got a couple of events lined up.”

The next events for the Stephen Staunton Foundation will be his Annual Golf Day at Aston Wood on April 26 with money being raised going to the Newlife charity and Dogs for the Disabled.

A Stephen Staunton Golf Classic in Marbella on May 26, followed by dinner and entertainment at Villa Tiberio will raise funds for the Children with Cancer charity.
