Burntwood RUFC Development side get revenge over Essington

In their first outing for over a month the Burntwood RUFC Development XV managed to overturn a defeat they suffered away to Essington earlier in the season.

The 17-10 victory proved to be a very competitive contest with little to choose between the two sides particularly in the first half.

The hosts started the better and were ahead after five minutes. Good interplay freed Ben Poulton on a run to the line from the visitors’ 22.

Having missed a couple of penalty attempts, Essington levelled the scores with a try close to the break.

Play was more open in the second period with each side having good spells of possession and territory. Matt Watkins put his side ahead by charging a kick down and following up to score.

Another spell of pressure by Burntwood was rewarded with a try from Nick Peplow who broke free to score. Tom O’Brien added the conversion.

Essington stayed in the hunt until the end and reduced the arrears with a try close to the final whistle.
