Barton United failed to keep up the pressure on the Midland Combination Division Two frontrunners after suffering a 5-2 defeat against Alcester Town.

The result means United now sit in fifth place, ten points behind leaders Barnt Green Spartak.

Nathan Hunt and John Thompson were both on target for Barton, but second placed Alcester proved to be too strong.

But United will hope to fare better next Saturday (January 19) as they travel to struggling Coventry Spires and will be hoping for a repeat of the performance that saw them win 3-1 when the two sides met in a cup clash back in August.
