Teenagers across Lichfield and Burntwood are being urged to nominate their favourite books for an award.

Time is running out for young people to put forward their top books for the Staffordshire Young Teen Fiction Awards.

And County Councillor Pat Corfield is urging readers to get their nominations in ahead of the February 15 deadline.

“In today’s world, books have to compete with all manner of digital distractions and entertainments for the attention of our young people,” said Cllr Corfield. “Last year, we had 1,387 nominations for the six-book shortlist and 159 youngsters from 21 county schools voted A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness as their winner.”

Nominations can be made by youngsters aged 11 to 14 ahead of a celebration day later this year.
