Schools in Lichfield and Burntwood are taking part in a green initiative aimed at cutting their energy bills.
King Edward VI High School, St Chad’s Primary School and The Friary School in Lichfield have joined Ridgeway Primary in Burntwood to sign up for the project.
Organised by Staffordshire County Council and the Carbon Trust, the scheme will see the schools learn how to save energy and utilise smart meter technologies.
Pupils will also be involved, taking part in activities and running small projects as part of the curriculum.
Joanne Elves, headteacher at Ridgeway Primary School, said: “Joining the scheme has proven to be an excellent move.
“The school has been able to identify simple, cost effective ways in which the whole school community can get involved in energy reduction.
“We were able to identify some underlying issues with our systems that were resulting in excessive energy usage. We have been able to address these, leading to a substantial saving for the school.
“We hope to save in the region of £6,000 on our energy bills this year alone.”
