Firefighters in Lichfield have been shortlisted for county-wide awards.

Artus Gorovnos is one of three city-based members of Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service up for the county-wide MORE Awards.

He was recognised in the Fire Service Champion category for his community work, including using his ability to speak Russian to help translate and care for a casualty during an incident.

Fellow Lichfield firefighter Sharron Finch has been shortlisted for the Fundraiser of the Year award following her continued efforts to raise money for the Fire Fighter’s Charity, while Hannah Bond has been put forward for the Young Person of the Year award.

The 2013 MORE awards will be held at the Stafford County Showground on March 7.

Chief Fire Officer Peter Dartford said: “It’s vitally important that we recognise the contribution our staff and volunteers make, as well as those who work with us to improve the lives and well-being of the communities we serve.

“It is also right that we celebrate the hard work they do, as there are so many examples where individuals and teams go above and beyond the call of duty to protect the communities of Staffordshire and make a positive difference in their local areas.”
