Lichfield City were forced to reflect on two points dropped after a drab 0-0 draw against old rivals Blackwood at Brownsfield Park.

Paul Holt’s men will have been hoping for a better result after failing to come away with more than a point from their previous encounter at basement side Racing Club Warwick.

Lichfield made the early running as the visitors were content to get men behind the ball. Although City enjoyed plenty of possession, they lacked any real cutting in a lack-lustre first half.

Their only real effort of note came when a Liam Holt header was tipped over the bar by keeper Jordan Ellis, while a rare venture forward saw Blackwood muster their only chance when City stopper Craig Johnson scrambled away a Chris Hill effort.

Lichfield tried to up the tempo after the half-time interval, with Ellis being called into action again to deny Todd Perry.

Former Blackwood striker Jacob Snape was introduced on the hour and he almost got the better of his old team-mates when his left-footed drive was clawed away by Ellis.

The visitors did enjoy a spell of pressure in the final 20 minutes when a succession of corners ended with Lee Thorpe firing wastefully wide.

Despite the disappointment at not breaking their opponents down, the result does stretch Lichfield’s unbeaten league run to nine games.
