Comedian Chris Addison is one of the first star names to be confirmed for the Lichfield Festival.

The star of The Thick of It and Mock the Week will be one of a number of performers from across the spectrum to appear in the city between July 4 and 14.

More laughs will be on offer courtesy of theatrical comedy specialists Lip Service, who will present their latest show Inspector Norse – a tongue-in-cheek spoof of the current crop of TV crime dramas.

It has also been confirmed that London’s Philharmonia Orchestra will perform works by Vaughan Williams and Sibelius at the closing concert on July 13.

The honour of opening the Lichfield Festival has gone to the Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra from Manchester.

Meanwhile, there will also be a first visit to the Festival for the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

The 2013 calendar will feature daytime concerts in St Michael’s Church and at Swinfen Hall Hotel, including performances by the Heath and Skampa String Quartets, as well as a morning series of chamber music featuring young artists in the Cathedral Lady Chapel.

More acts will be announced in the coming weeks with booking opening in early May.
