The event was hosted by Cllr Ken Humphreys, chairman of Lichfield District Council, and included a three-course dinner, music and dancing.

There was also an after dinner speech by Sir Bernard Knight, who talked about the first air ambulance – a hot air balloon towed by a horse.

The dinner dance was held to raise money for the chairman’s charities. In all, £1,138 was raised on the night for the We Love Lichfield Fund and Midland Air Ambulance.

Cllr Humphreys said: “It was a superb night and an opportunity to catch up with fellow civic heads from Staffordshire and the neighbouring counties, as well as local councillors and representatives from businesses, local organisations and charities.

“We thoroughly enjoyed Sir Bernard’s after dinner speech – it was very amusing and informative.

“I am delighted to have raised more than £1,000 for my chosen charities. My thanks go to all those that attended the night and supported me, and to everyone who gave so generously.”
