Hard-working Lichfield and Burntwood families will benefit from budget, county council leader claims

The leader of Conservative-controlled Staffordshire County Council has claimed the budget will “benefit hard working families” in the region.

Chancellor George Osborne announced his latest financial plans to the nation yesterday (March 20).

As well as attempts to stimulate the housing market, he also confirmed changes in a bid to support small businesses across the country.

And although Cllr Philip Atkins admitted that not everyone would be happy with their lot from the chancellor, he did think there were enough positives emerging from the red briefcase.

“People need to have the money in their pockets if they are going to spend and drive economic growth locally,” he explained.

“Of course it is human nature to sometimes want more but I think overall, the budget will benefit hard working families in Staffordshire and further supports our own ambitions to deliver growth, creating more jobs and prosperity across the whole county.

“As with any budget you are never going to get exactly what you want, but I am pleased with the aspects which help promote business growth or make everyday living more affordable for Staffordshire residents.”
