A gritter

Gritters have been out across Lichfield and Burntwood as the area was hit by another bout of winter weather.

Snow fall has been forecast for most of Staffordshire for the next few days, with an amber warning issued by the Met Office.

Drivers are being warned to expect delays on roads this morning (March 22).

Mike Maryon, Staffordshire County Council’s highways chief, said: “The weather forecasters are predicting heavy snow from the early hours and this, together with strong winds, is likely to cause some disruption on our roads.

“Our gritting teams will be out once again doing a sterling job in what looks likely to be quite treacherous conditions and will be doing their very best to clear the roads.

“Our message is to stay at home if you can, but if you do need to travel make sure you are properly prepared for the journey, check the weather forecast and listen to local radio for updates.”

As a resident of Burntwood I am absolutely disgusted at the lack of gritters in our area, yes the main roads are now passable Sunday 24/3/2013, and I do not expect every estate road to be gritted but I would expect to see gritters more frequently on through roads. Every resident I have spoken too has the same view we are and always will be the poor residents of Lichfield, which incidentally has very little snow on the roads no doubt due to being gritted well.

I guess the assumption then is Burntwood wasn’t gritted because Lichfield Council doesn’t care? But then Gritting and Highways is operationally Staffordshire County Council, and please be aware that Whittington Lichfield has had no gritting either so its not POOR OLD BURNTWOOD AGAIN! but we just get on with things, just except bad snow = travel disruption. I mean do people think they should be allowed to travel around like a sunny summers day…

I think they should make Burntwood an Independent Peoples Republic. They sully the good name of Ye Olde City and write moany comments too much.
