The A51 route out of Lichfield was blocked near Brereton after trees fell under the weight of snow.

It finally reopened last night (March 25), but motorists are being warned that a number of routes will still be affected.

Ian Turner, Staffordshire County Council’s Head of Highways, said: “Our crews are continuing to do all they can, in treacherous and freezing conditions, to clear our roads and make them safe.

“We cleared a number of trees and snow on the A51, which subsequently led to the road being reopened last night.

“Although more roads are being reopened, many routes are still very treacherous and should be passed with extreme care.”
