A residents’ group in Lichfield says it will “step-up” speed checks on a city road.

The news that the A51 Western Bypass will undergo a major resurfacing project has led to concerns from the Beacon Street Area Residents’ Association (BSARA).

They worry that drivers will cut through other parts of the city in a bid to get around the roadworks.

In a post on their website, the group said: “It is anticipated that the work will take a number of weeks to complete and inevitably will cause traffic disruption that will impact on to Beacon Street.

“BSARA will step up Speedwatch during this period with the aim of keeping speeds within the legal limit.

“A number of serious speeding and dangerous overtaking manoeuvres have been reported by members over recent weeks and with the additional traffic due to the resurfacing work on the A51 this type of inconsiderate driving could result in a serious road traffic accident.”
