Lichfield Guildhall

The organisers of a Lichfield environmental event will be bringing their attractions to a wider audience after switching to a new venue.

The Big Green Fair, which has taken place in Whittington for the past five years, will take place in the Lichfield Guildhall on May 4.

Low Carbon Lichfield and Whittington and Fisherwick Environment Group made the switch after deciding to add the event to the city’s growing calendar of festivals.

Organiser Caroline Allen said: “We are really excited to be holding the Big Green Fair in Lichfield for the first time.

“The success in Whittington in recent years has prompted us to bring it to a city audience and we have some terrific attractions lined up to make it an unmissable occasion for all ages.”

Celebrated Lichfield nature lover and educationalist Wildlife Kate will be the star attraction at this year’s Big Green Fair.

Kate has captivated viewers of SpringWatch and Gardeners’ World with her webcams of garden birds and mammals. She will be giving talks and workshops through the day and demonstrating her range of bird feeding techniques and cameras, as well as showing recordings of the wildlife in her garden.

There will also be an appearance by Penney Poyzer, one of the country’s leading experts on home energy and winner of the Government’s Retrofit Pioneer Award last year with her architect husband Gil Schalom.

She will be giving talks about her Nottingham Ecohome where heating bills have been reduced by over 60 per cent and major water savings made with rainwater harvesting.

The event will also feature entertainment and stalls featuring crafts, energy saving ideas and local food and drink suppliers.
