Review: Cinderella on Ice @ Lichfield Garrick

A classic tale was given a chilly twist as the Lichfield Garrick was transformed for the arrival of Cinderella on Ice.

Cinderella on Ice

A troupe of talented Russian skaters took to the stage for the opening night of the fairytale show’s run in the city.

High energy and sparkling skating skills brought the story to life for a varied audience. Younger members were wowed by the unique storytelling of the show, while others were appreciative of an entertaining mixture of costumes and music.

Capitalising on the popularity of shows such as Dancing on Ice, the performers were always going to be getting off on the right foot but they were able to go beyond simply showcasing their blade-work to create a magical experience.

Telling a fairy story without words is a daunting task, but it’s one that the producers of this show have been able to tackle well. Even younger members of the audience were able to follow and – crucially – enjoy seeing Cinderella’s classic story brought to life on ice.

The transformation of the stage to a fully functioning rink was a good indication of just how diverse and enjoyable Lichfield’s theatre space can be – and this particular show is likely to prove a big hit for the rest of its run.

Cinderella on Ice is on until Sunday (April 14). Tickets are available from the box office on 01543 412121 or visit the Lichfield Garrick website.
