Proposals have been submitted for a wind turbine on land near Lichfield.

Lichfield District Council have received a planning application for land at Wigginton Field Farm.

If built, the tip of the blades would reach just over 46 metres in height.

In a statement supporting the application, the developer said: “Wigginton Fields Farm is a family-owned farming business which has dramatically changed within recent times.

“The farming business mainly relied on rearing dairy cattle. However,
due to the continuing reduction in dairy prices, the applicants have had to diversify the structure of the farming business within the last few months.

“The proposed wind turbine would serve to meet the energy needs of this farming business alongside the main farmhouse. Accordingly, the existing energy infrastructure would be replaced so that the electricity generated by the wind turbine can be directly utilised on the farm.

“In this respect, the proposed wind turbine would generate and supply a significant amount of energy from a renewable energy source reducing the running costs of the farming business and reducing the energy fuel bill for the residential property over the lifetime of the development.”
