Lichfield man arrested after Burntwood driver is injured in road rage incident

A Lichfield man has been arrested in connection with a road rage incident that left a Burntwood driver with facial injuries.

Police say the pair became involved in a race along the A51 near Stone, before pulling up near a petrol station in Colwich.

The 46-year-old driver of a red Volvo V50 suffered facial injuries in the incident and was treated in hospital.

The Vauxhall Vivaro van drove off, but a 46-year-old man from Lichfield was later arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been bailed pending further inquiries.

Both vehicles are believed to have overtaken other motorists and each other as they raced along the A51.

Police say a cyclist escaped injury after being knocked off his bike when they passed too close to him.

PC Nigel Marshall said: “We are keen to trace the cyclist who is believed to be from the area and maybe a member of a local cycling club.

“I’d also like to appeal to anyone who witnessed any careless or dangerous driving, or the assault.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Marshall at Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 656 of April 11. Alternatively, they can contact independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
