Princes Park in Burntwood

The global battle for the world’s smallest park title is nearing an end after both sides agreed to “peace talks”.

Prince’s Park in Burntwood had been aiming to challenge the right of Mill Ends Park in Portland, USA, to hold the record.

Described as a “glorified flowerpot”, the American park even installed fencing to see off the English challenge.

But Kevin Wilson, from Lichfield firm KP Events, who originally launched the bid for Burntwood to claim the title, is keen for both parks to end the dispute on a positive note.

He admitted that a “peace treaty” had been drawn up ahead of the world’s shortest fun run record attempt at Prince’s Park.

The event – which is raising money for the We Love Lichfield Fund – is also on the lookout for Portland residents living in the Midlands, to represent their home town as an “unofficial ambassador” at the event.
