Lichfield City got a much needed three points but were made to work hard against a much improved Castle Vale JKS side.

They got off to a perfect start when after four minutes Josh Houghton twisted and turned in the box only to be pulled down by Scott Goodby, Liam Holt dispatching the resulting spot kick.

The home side poured forward and Kyle Minto was unfortunate not to double the lead when he just failed to connect to a superb Ashley Evans cross.

City then slipped into bad habits when they switched off for 20 minutes to allow the visitors to dominate, and sloppy defending at a set piece allowed Kallum Blake a free header to level the scores a minute before half time.

The hosts started the second half with real purpose, Evans firing wide and Minto forcing a smart save out of keeper George Adamson.

Lichfield re-took the lead on 70 minutes as a fine through ball from Evans put in Minto who finished confidently past Adamson.

City had further chances to extend their lead, the best chance falling to Houghton who forced a fine reaction save from the Vale keeper. The final five minutes saw Vale push for the equaliser and they thought it had came when a Tom Howard free kick came back off the upright, but City breathed a huge sigh of relief and took a hard earned three points in the process.
