Funding available to help boost trade in Lichfield city centre

A bid to increase trade in Lichfield city centre will see a £6,000 funding pot made available.

Events organisers are being invited to bid for a share of the money to host events this year and next.

“Last year Lichfield was awarded £50,000 High Street Innovation Funding to help boost shops and businesses in Lichfield city centre,” said Cllr Mike Wilcox, leader of Lichfield District Council. “Since then we’ve been working closely with local businesses to come up with ways to invest the funding.

“One idea that traders came up with was to offer some of the money to event organisers, who can come up with innovative ideas for new events that will boost footfall into the city and into local shops.”

The funding is open to new events only, and the events must demonstrate how they are going to encourage people to visit shops and high street businesses.

Ruth Plant, chair of Lichfield Town Team, addeded: “The kind of events that have worked really well in nearby cities, such as Birmingham, are when the organisers invite shops and retailers to get involved.”

To apply for the funding, interested applicants need to visit www.lichfielddc.gov.uk/eventsfund and download the application pack. The deadline for applications is 4pm on May 17.

Anyone with questions about the process can email elizabeth.thatcher@lichfielddc.gov.uk or stephen.lightfoot@lichfielddc.gov.uk.
