The free event will also see clog dancing, juggling and other activities on the street outside the venue all day.

Organiser Caroline Allen said: ” This first Lichfield Big Green Fair promises to be a really fun-filled event for all the family.

“While there is a serious purpose behind promoting sustainable lifestyles, the big message we want to get across is that ‘green’ living is fun, smart and actually saves money. So we have aimed to make the Fair a good balance between information and entertainment and have some terrific attractions lined up to make it an unmissable occasion for all ages.”

Around 40 stalls featuringinformation, produce and crafts will occupy two floors of the Guildhall.

Lichfield’s own Wildlife Kate will be giving talks at 11 am and 1.30pm about her fascinating wildlife garden which was featured on Springwatch and on Gardeners World last year. At  noon, she will also be running a workshop on making bird food garlands to help attract feathered friends.

Penney Poyser, the star of BBC2 show No Waste Like Home, will be talking about her award-winning Victorian Nottingham Ecohome at noon and 2.30pm and inviting visitors to join in her Watercycle Game at 1pm.

There will also be a Morris Dancing workshop in the George IV pub next door to the Guildhall at 2.30pm.
